The “Golden Format”: CGM for Technical Work

For aerospace, defense, and manufacturing illustrators, CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile) is the preferred migration format. To export CGM from Corel DESIGNER or CorelDRAW:

Export in the Right Format

For SVG (gradients): File → Export → SVG. Ensure “Export all layers” is enabled. On Windows, SVG export from CorelDRAW retains gradient data most reliably.

Import into canvasxdraw

Launch canvasxdraw and use File → Open (for self-contained files) or File → Import for assets within an existing document.

For CAD data (DWG/DXF): Use the Import Wizard. Set your drawing scale (e.g., 1:10) to match your original engineering scale exactly. Mismatched scale is the most common import error on technical drawings — the wizard prevents it.
