We’re kicking off something new for the canvasxdraw community: a step-by-step instructional video series from Paul Dufour, retired Boeing Technical Fellow specializing in aerospace structures. Paul has spent decades creating and reviewing technical graphics in one of the most demanding engineering environments in the world, and he’s bringing that experience directly to you, one practical lesson at a time.
If you’ve followed Paul’s earlier guest posts, you already know his perspective: the right tool matters. Below, in his own words, is why he’s chosen canvasxdraw as that tool, and what to expect from this first video.
“One of the comments I made in my first blog post was that the right tool should be used for engineering graphics, and that canvasxdraw is such a tool. Why is that? It’s because it is purposefully created for technical graphics; it’s not a generic add-on capability amongst many other add-ons in a presentation software package. It has a well thought out user interface that has been refined over decades of development with the single purpose of efficiently creating technical graphics.
In this post I’m going to show just the beginnings of basic functionality in canvasxdraw. I’ll draw some basic graphic elements and introduce the GUI. In later posts I’ll explain much more of the capability, but like with all software packages, to get started some basic skills and knowledge are useful.”
