How to Wrap Text Along an Object
We touched on writing text along a path back in Episode 3, but this episode goes further, showing you the full set of positioning controls you get once your text is following an object’s shape.
What You’ll Learn
The Text Path tool lets you wrap text along any vector object’s outline, rather than confining it to a straight line or box. Once your text is placed, canvasxdraw gives you fine-grained control over exactly how it sits on that path.
Quick Recap: Wrapping Text Along an Object
1. Create your vector object. This is the shape your text will follow.
2. Select the Text Path tool.
3. Click on the object.
4. Edit your text options and type your text. It will follow the contour of the object as you type.
Fine-Tuning the Placement
Once your text is on the path, you’ll notice three positioning triangles that give you precise control:
1. Shift left and right to move the text along the path.
2. Rotate inward and outward to adjust how the text angles relative to the object’s edge.
3. Invert the text to flip its orientation on the path entirely.
Together, these controls mean you’re not stuck with wherever the text happens to land first, a quick adjustment gets it sitting exactly where and how you want
Why It’s Worth Knowing
Labels that follow the shape of an object, around a curve, a badge, or a circular diagram, read more naturally than text crammed into a straight box nearby. The positioning triangles are what make that practical: instead of manually repositioning individual characters, you’re adjusting the whole path of text with a click and a drag.
